HOLYOKE - On Tuesday evening, Link to Libraries held its biennial gala at the Log Cabin in Holyoke.

The events theme of "Once Upon a Time" tied in perfectly with the non-profit's mission of getting the fascinating world of books and literature into the hands of local youth.

The fundraising event is a popular one across the spectrum of local educators, business people, and politicians. The nearly 600 attendees enjoyed networking as well as the Log Cabin's trademark hors d'oeuvres, desserts, and creative cocktails.

The property was utterly transformed into a fantasy land with many of the features donated and created by sponsors worthy of being on a movie set. The Mad Hatters table from Alice in Wonderland and the Jack and the Beanstalk and Snow White displays were among them. The crowd stopper was the area dedicated to Cinderella and the massive, ornate ice sculpture carriage by Joe Almeida.

Since 2008, Link to Libraries has been the largest distributor of books to underserved youth in Western Massachusetts and Northern Connecticut. Over 500,000 books have been put into the hands of school children by the organization fueled, in part, by their large list of sponsors.

In addition to supplying books, the organization offers literacy related programs such as read aloud programs and school sponsorships for businesses. According to Link to Libraries, 100 percent of the money raised at the gala would go toward the non-profit's overall mission.
