In the fall of 2025, Link to Libraries brought its mission East.
After more than 15 years and putting over one million new books into the hands and homes of children across Western Massachusetts and Northern Connecticut, we expanded our work to Boston. The reason was simple: the need was there. Across Boston, too many elementary school students are struggling to read proficiently, while many schools and school libraries lack the resources necessary to put a steady stream of new, engaging books into children's hands. We knew that the programs that had made a difference for thousands of children in other communities could make a difference here, too.
So, we got to work.
BRINGING LINK TO LIBRARIES PROGRAMS TO BOSTON
Our Boston expansion brings two of Link to Libraries' signature programs to schools in need: Community Book Link and Read Aloud. Through Community Book Link, local businesses, individuals, families and organizations partner directly with an underserved elementary school, helping to fill school library shelves with hundreds of new books each year. Our Read Aloud program brings volunteer readers into third and fourth grade classrooms throughout the school year to share stories, talk about books and help foster a love of reading. Best of all, at the end of each visit, every student chooses a brand-new book to take home and keep, helping ensure that children build home libraries of their own.
Today, Link to Libraries is partnering with five Boston Public Schools, and we are just getting started. As more schools learn about our programs, the demand continues to grow. Our goal is to grow with it - building new partnerships, welcoming new volunteer readers and getting thousands of brand-new books into the hands of the children in Boston who need them most.
